GreenChess.com was started on October 22, 2005 by George Merchant, a registered Apple Developer and vegetarian who lives in Fargo, North Dakota. He primarily specializes in chess engine design and creating Apps for macOS and iOS using C++ and Swift. All the Apps for download here are digitally signed as an identified Apple Developer for security in addition to being notarized by Apple. He is also a Life Member of the United States Chess Federation and maintains the North Dakota Chess Association website at ndchess.com. While in California, George received a PhD in geography from the University of California Santa Barbara in 2000. Afterwards, he was a programmer on the Stanford campus from 2001 to 2006. In 2007, George moved to North Dakota to be an AmeriCorps volunteer for one year. After his volunteer service finished, George decided to become an independent programmer in Fargo to allow for creative control over his ideas. All App development is done on a 2024 13-inch MacBook Air (Apple Silicon M3 chip) using Xcode.
